Plot. "Salvatore loves the sea, is in his late 20s and has a boat with which he takes people to visit his island, Ventotene. He has a light, easygoing, free life. In winter, however, when there are no tourists anymore, he has to go to work as a mason in construction sites on the mainland. So, as he says, he finds himself leading a life like "mattresses": with a summer side and a winter side. One day he meets Martina, a tourist from Genoa who has come to the island to dive. The two fall in love and experience a poignant romance; Salvatore's passion for the girl is total and deep; she becomes his whole life, the center of his every thought. Love triggers in the young man the desire to give new perspectives to his life. Full of plans for life and love, Salvatore experiences a brief moment of fullness and total happiness until Martina makes herself unavailable...
